Crawler
A Crawler moves on all fours. It used to walk upright.
Low to the ground, fast, and built wrong. The spine has been lengthened and reshaped — the body crouches in a permanent predatory hunch, knuckles and feet hitting the ground simultaneously. Tentacles erupt from the upper back and shoulders, trailing behind as it moves, wet and constantly flexing. The hands have fused into heavy clawed formations.
Crawlers are fast. Faster than they look. The hunch is deceptive.
They do not speak. They do not stop.
Behavior
- Crawlers are typically encountered moving, not waiting.
- They leave tracks: deep claw marks in soft ground, a wide knuckle-drag pattern, tentacle drag lines on either side.
- They are difficult to hear approaching.
Signs of a Crawler's Passage
- Dead animals — killed, not eaten.
- Claw prints in mud or soft earth, wider than a human hand.
- Parallel drag lines on either side of the track — tentacle marks.
- A faint sweetness in the air, like overripe fruit.
First Encountered
Session 1 — during the creature attack on Isvyn. Signs of Crawler activity were also found earlier at Desvel Farm — a dead lamb, insides spread, nothing eaten.
